La Trobe University’s E-bureau engaged me to design a culturally sensitive, handbook on gender-based violence for healthcare professionals in Timor-Leste. The challenge was to present complex and confronting content with clarity and care, in both Tetum and English, while centring lived experience and ensuring the resource felt locally relevant, practical and respectful.
> Created a bilingual layout for print (Tetum) and digital (English) formats to broaden reach and accessibility.
> Deployed infographics, mnemonics and a visual system to assist memory and support real-world usability.
> Highlighted survivor and provider stories with visual treatments that honoured their voices. Also helped bring evidence-based, WHO-aligned clinical content to life in a way that felt grounded, human and local.
> Designed a cover inspired by traditional woven fabrics — referencing communal spaces where women share stories and support one another.
> Supported sector-wide education and system improvement — the resource is now used in universities, clinics and community programs and has informed national procedures in Timor-Leste.
