La Trobe University’s E-bureau engaged me to design You Go High, We Go Low: Australian Pulps 1939–1969, a research publication to support a library exhibition celebrating the vivid, provocative world of Australia’s lowbrow literary culture. The design needed to hero bold imagery while still conforming to academic publishing standards.
The challenge was to create a layout that felt visually punchy, playful and referential — without compromising clarity or credibility. Designed to support La Trobe University Library’s exhibition on Australian pulp fiction, the resulting 64-page e-book celebrates the genre’s bold visual language while meeting academic publishing standards for accessibility, referencing and structure. Now available as an open-source reference on the university website, it bridges lowbrow culture and high-level research with clarity, flair and a healthy dose of pulp-inspired attitude.
